RIP Richie Havens

a powerful force on the mid/late 60's folk scene, Richie Havens became an international star after his classic performance opened the Woodstock Festival in 1969.  one of the finest voices from his era.  R.I.P.

Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac

the early years of Fleetwood Mac, completely unrecognizable from the band that would take over the mainstream pop music world a few years later.

here's a nice documentary on these early days and the rise and fall of Peter Green, an interesting, overlooked, and sad casualty of the late 60's acid scene.

Bombino - "Nomad" (2013 Nonesuch)

a stunning album of Saharan African nomadic blues, steeped in traditional sounds like Bombino's predecessor Tinariwen, filtered through western-based rock music, and looped back into it's original form.   produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys.

Catherine Wheel - Ferment (1992 Fontana)

a beautiful and underrated album.  ethereal vocals, a wall-of-glass guitar sound, and a subtle but strong rhythm section weave a stunning web of sound from the first note to the last.
